Victoria Police

Let me just say.....Know the Victoria Police Core Values!

In providing an efficient and effective policing service, Victoria Police employs members of the community who reflect the values and behaviours espoused in The Way Ahead Strategic Plan 2008-13 in maintaining the community's trust and satisfaction.

The acronym F.L.I.P.R.S may help you to remember the following core values which are essential:

Flexibility - remain open-minded at all times, be adaptive to change, while welcoming difference and practicing tolerance.

Leadership - be approachable, consistent and committed to, and inspire these organisational values.

Integrity - act with honesty, respecting the right of fair process for all, maintain confidentiality and respect for those we deal with, demonstrate moral strength and courage and behave with honour and impartiality.

Professionalism - accept responsibility, be accountable to our customers and ourselves. We must communicate honestly, openly and consistently and continually strive for excellence.

R
espect - embrace the diversity that exists within our community, valuing opinions while appreciating and acknowledging the efforts of others.

S
upport - recognise and reward the service of our colleagues, and promote professional and career development. At all times, we must care for the wellbeing of our colleagues.

You should be prepared to answer scenario style questions based on each of the core values as well as consider examples of how you have demonstrated these values in your own life experience.

Victoria Police is looking for people who:

  • Seek a varied, challenging and satisfying career
  • Value teamwork and diversity
  • Display maturity, initiative and high ethical behaviour
  • Have a tolerance for stress
  • Are committed to helping others
  • Display good communication skills
  • Act responsively and are accountable for their actions.

The Victoria Police Code of Conduct and Code of Ethics provide the basis for our professional practice and define the expected standards of behaviour and conduct.

Victoria Police recruits on a regular basis and accepts applications at any time. In reflecting the community we serve, we are committed to recruiting more women and people from culturally diverse backgrounds. Our particular focus is to increase the representation of women in Victoria Police to 25 per cent.

Remember that this selection panel interview is the "job interview" and is the first opportunity, after all that you have already been through, for the police department to get to know who you really are. Make sure you treat it as a job interview (a very competitive one!) by preparing yourself as well as you possible can. The interview is an opportunity to increase your score and therefore your ultimate position on the order of merit.

Remember that simply passing each stage of the selection process is no guarantee of being offered a position.

You should make yourself familiar with this document at the Victoria Police website to ensure you have a good understanding of what to expect at your selection panel interview. The document also gives examples of the type of questions you can expect to be asked.
